Australian Tile Council

The Australian Tile Council exists to protect, educate and enhance the tile industry for the benefit of its members. It is organised and run by its members who represent around 70% of all tiles sold in the country.

The Australian Tile Council’s primary role is to represent the industry to do collectively those things individual members could not effectively achieve independently. As such the Australian Tile Council is recognised by the Australian Government as the representative industry body.

To ensure minimum standards are met throughout the industry, the Australian Tile Council has representatives on all relevant national industry committees such as –
• Australian Standards for the fixing of tiles,
• Australian Slip Resistant Standards,
• Wet Areas in Buildings, and
• External Waterproofing Membranes

The Australian Tile Council also recently wrote and published the Tiles and Tiling Guide to complement the Australian Standards for tiling. This guide will assist those within the tile industry such as tilers, builders, architects, designers, specifiers and the general public to better
understand tiles and tile installation to ensure both not only meet, but exceed minimum standards and code compliance and are used in the manner intended.

Collectively the Australian Tile Council members are experts within all facets of the tile and tiling industry and as such can draw on that experience and expertise in any tile and tiling related matter. As the industry body of the Tile and Tiling Industry, the Australian Tile Council can assist the building industry in any tile or tile installation matter, as well as better understanding how tile products can and should be used and installed leading to a more informed industry and better and improved regulations.
