About LCI

What is a Life Cycle Inventory?

ISO 14040:2006 “Environmental management — Life cycle assessment —Principles and framework” defines life cycle inventory analysis (LCI) as “phase of life cycle assessment involving the compilation and quantification of inputs and outputs, for a given product system throughout its life cycle”

LCA is an inherently detailed and complex process that requires a thorough understanding of the standards and methods for conducting LCA and how both the inputs and outputs of production processes lead back through their supply chains to environmental impacts. Compiling the Life Cycle Inventory (LCI) is the first step.

The purpose of the BP LCI project as it relates to LCA is to provide guidance on the industry agreed, consistent basis for the correct and appropriate use of BP LCI data for LCA applied to whole buildings, assemblies or products.
