Australian Steel Institute

The Australian Steel Institute (ASI) is the peak industry body for steel in Australia. It promotes the use of Australian steel in manufacturing and construction, with a specific vision to influence profitable growth for the complete Australian steel value chain. The ASI promotes increased use of Australian steel and improved industry competitiveness by providing representation, technical and marketing leadership, industry development and an independent industry forum.

ASI represents all the major sectors within the steel value chain including the two major manufacturers, BlueScope Steel and OneSteel, as well as their Distribution channel members and also Fabricators, Detailers, Designers, Engineers, Architects and many others who service the industry. The ASI has offices in all major capital cities and provides a comprehensive variety of services.

The Australian Steel Institute (ASI) acts for a safer, more productive and sustainable Australian steel manufacturing and design industry.

With member groups across the full chain from steel manufacturing, distribution and downstream processing to design, drafting and detailing, the ASI’s activity covers the full range from promoting excellence to providing training and support.

The ASI works with government, the media and other associations to provide an independent voice for industry representation across vital issues such as promoting local content advantages in the nation’s interest, to both to the client and to government.

With a mission to assist growing the market for Australian processed or fabricated steel, the ASI is active in a whole range of sectors from buildings and infrastructure projects to sheds and racking systems.

In the design area, the technical support arm of the Institute organises events such as case study seminars and awards, and publishes journals (based on latest research), not to mention training both at industry and undergraduate level.

The technical references provided through the electronic online resources and library are proudly the best in the Southern Hemisphere and with longstanding links to global research and other steel industry associations such as worldsteel, the ASI can offer a truly international solution.
